Good communication on board of a vessel can only occur when the connection between vessel and shore is working properly. This communication can consist in: Analog long range telephony, high tech conference call solutions, as well as advanced VoIP telephone exchanges. Verhagen IT Group has a lot of experience with all kinds of communication solutions for the Maritime world.

Telephony on board of a vessel usually depends on a VoIP network. VoIP stands for Voice over IP, and means more or less that you call through an internet cable instead of a telephone cable. There are a lot of benefits to VoIP, one of which is the ability to create complex telephone networks. Especially our customers in the cruise market, have a need for complex telephone networks.

At sea it is necessary to use a satellite connection for telephone traffic, because there is no GSM network coverage at sea. Usually a VSAT connection is used to call.

It is possible to connect a VoIP telephone exchange on a GSM gateway. This enables the ship to call to another ship or shore via a GSM network. However you do need GSM coverage for this.

Our systems are also able create a phone list. This enables the reception to see which cabin called and to monitor the duration of individual calls.

Analog telephony

Verhagen IT Group also supplies analogue telephone exchanges. This is especially interesting, if there is no need for a complex telephone network.

Private GSM

Mobile phone network coverage on board of a vessel can be poor. Coverage inside vessels is not always optimal due to the metal walls and wiring. To solve this, you can use a Private GSM network. With a Private GSM network you have strong receivers on board with a strong signal. These powerful receivers have a better range and coverage than the receivers in mobile devices, and the signal from the receivers is distributed by specially made transmitters.

Public address

To address a large group of people on board a vessel at once, you can use Public Address (intercom). Public Address can be used to inform passengers or crew members. Speakers are installed in all public areas and connected to a central system. In this way, you can address passengers or crew members from the bridge or reception.
